Smart cities and buildings help mitigate the climate challenge

Smart cities connect buildings, properties, users and infrastructure in order to become sustainable, user-friendly environments. Smart buildings need to be flexible and adapt as requirements are constantly changing. To make properties both comfortable and sustainable, property technology and digital solutions must work seamlessly together.

In this paper we present an overview of the collaboration between Sensative and Beijer Electronics and our collaborative solutions for smart cities and buildings.

Cities covers two percent of earth's surface, but more than half the world's population lives there. Buildings are responsible for 40% of energy use and 36% of carbon dioxide emissions in the EU. On average, people spend 80% of their lives inside buildings such as office buildings, schools, hospitals and homes.

In order to meet the climate goals for 2030, there is still much left to be done. It includes achieving targets for reduced greenhouse gas emissions, increased share of renewable energy sources and higher performance in energy efficiency. To be able to make this happen several technical systems has to collaborate in a total solution.

A combined offering delivers the solution

Sensative is a PropTech company offering data management IoT services and products for a wide range of applications. Founded in 2014 in Lund, Sweden, Sensative has become a leading supplier of innovative solutions within connected infrastructure in society.

Using Sensative’s Data Platform Yggio, property owners can scale up their energy efficiency and digitization in order to reach their climate and sustainability goals. The data platform Yggio manages and translates all data regardless of technology. Thus, data can be shared and used limitless by all technology and systems in buildings.

Data from currently separated solutions can be enabled to contribute to increased accuracy in energy optimization, pro-active operational management and improved customer experiences in buildings. The development of innovative services gives completely new opportunities to take place in tomorrow's properties.

In the larger context, property owners can contribute to future solutions to mitigate society’s challenges, such as energy crisis, climate threats and social sustainability.

By gathering all information from buildings, property managers are able to make decision based on data rather than today's more experience-based decisions.

Sensative’s data platform collaborate perfectly with Beijer Electronics' building automation concept adding further advantages:

  • Beijer Electronics’ open, scalable solution helps to automate the operation of buildings by providing complete control over the indoor climate and all technical systems – optimizing energy use.
  • We offer a framework and technology suitable for new properties and for retrofitting of old ones.
  • At the same time, the construction industry is adapting to a new world of big data and more advanced technologies. Technologies called PropTech or Real Estate Technologies which aim to increase the digitization of buildings, real estate businesses and sometimes entire cities. Beijer Electronics hardware is a prerequisite to integrate solutions to new or legacy technology.

Data-driven decisions for smart buildings

The collaboration between Beijer Electronics and Sensitive enable property managers and owners to implement solutions covering the entire chain from control and analysis for efficient data-based decision making. Our combined solutions are open, secure and scalable, and help property owners and managers to enable innovative solutions and systems for property automation that increase efficiency, reduce energy use and help meet sustainability goals. And at the same time, provide the comfortable and productive living environment you would expect from a smart building.
